Let us present to you Petal and Metal Bridal - her otherworldly bridal accessories exist outside of trends, outside of quick fix consumerism but rather something of a labour of love, bespoke process and slow fashion. An unsung hero in the wedding world, we saw some magic that needed nurturing and approached founder Amy for our @woodsquaylondon shoot because we loved her cage-like hair chains. They are normally adorned with ethereal motifs like petals and butterflies (also beaut) but we wanted a piece with a little more edge, including real and gold cowrie shells and she threw herself into the brief with such beautiful results and it has lead on to long lasting magic making together, with more specialness at the Norwich virtual catwalk last October and now exhibiting at the real life show too this May.
Amy studied fine art sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art and this background informs her work with her describing it with “particular emphasis on fragility, and imperfections, and the way the natural world feels to me”. Amy, who is a strong mental health advocate and like many of us battles her own demons and her work is not only guided by her intuition and emotions, but also guides her though her darker times.
Each piece is unique and Amy works through a selection of antique, vintage and reclaimed materials with biodegradable natural new elements - showcasing that something old, something new element, as well as this Amy is working on ready to wear smaller items with summery vibes and body jewellery launching at this 2021 show. Even her stand will be something of an installation to behold and you will actually get to see Amy making..hand sewing lace flowers with raw cotton - live action art right here…reflecting her aesthetic, sheer and ethereal, incorporating dried flowers as, in her words, ‘a subtle homage to wellbeing and recovery, lots of nods to sensory, calming things’.
