Contemporary, minimalist bridal for London brides from our 2014 show to now - Introducing Andrea Hawkes Bridal
This year, our dress sponsor is Andrea Hawkes Bridal, an iconic bridal designer who’s famous for her contemporary shapes, flowing lines and impeccable eye for design. We were lucky enough to have her as an exhibitor in 2014 as a brand new start up business, and we’re honoured to have her back for our 2019 show. Half a decade has passed, but her incredible skill has stayed the same, with her designs getting more and more swoonworthy as the years have gone on.
Where it all began…
Andrea Hawkes is a British Bridal designer based in Islington, North London.
The brand was launched in 2014, after Andrea had worked alongside some of the most well-known British bridal designers for a number of years.
This has given her invaluable experience whilst working with Brides, to gain a true appreciation of the importance of the relationship between the bride and their designer.
In the same year of launching the brand, Andrea Hawkes participated at Most Curious in Hackney, London. This year sees a return of the brand, who over the past 5 years have developed and grown into one of the most well-known British Bridal designers, both in the UK and beyond.
Andrea started with a closed-door studio in Central Hackney in 2013, working with a former colleague to design, pattern and create her first collection. This led to participation at White Gallery London Bridal Week and opening a pop-up shop in Stoke Newington, as an initial trial of her designs. The pop-up shop and Most Curious Fair led to working with her first clients, launching the brand and developing her style ideas further.
The success of both led to her opening the Clerkenwell, London showroom in 2014, where a modern and relaxing space has been created in order for Andrea to give every bride the personal service she ensures. Andrea’s ethos is to simplify the bridal experience by offering an honest approach to having a beautiful wedding dress made.
Andrea designs classic couture shapes into modern contemporary designs, using the finest natural fabrics with attention to finishes and details creating a simplistic and strong aesthetic. Offering 3 levels of service, from standard size pieces, made to measure service and fully bespoke design to ensure every brides need can be catered for.
The in-house production team has the experience and understanding to create couture dresses to the highest standards in beautiful natural silk fabrics. Including bias and fully corseted wedding dresses, using traditional techniques and finishes.
The made to measure and bespoke services ensure a tailored fit for your dress, with a fitting schedule, including a cotton toile prototype, fitted to you before cutting your dress in silk. This is followed by 2 or 3 further fittings as your dress is developed to the finished article.
The “Identity” collection
Continued participation at White Gallery and Barcelona Bridal Week’ over following years have led to the brand expanding their reach in the UK and in Europe, working with stockists in Edinburgh, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Copenhagen and Amsterdam to date. 2019 will see further growth into other areas of the UK and Europe as they launch their 2020 collection ‘Identity’.
2019 will also see Andrea’ launch at New York Bridal Week, as the brand look to expand their reach to the US and Asia.
Andrea Hawkes 2020 Collection ‘Identity’ will be available to view at this year Most Curious fair, 22 new dress designs, with styling additions including jackets, tops, overskirts, belts and veils.
‘Identity’ has been created to reflect the importance of each individual bride’s dress, designing pieces that are unique in their place throughout the collection. Fabrics have been developed and sourced from far and wide to ensure the quality of Andrea’ dresses are retained. The team develop all their plain silks with a specialist natural silk mill, and source French lace from the most renowned producers, hand crafting on looms dating back 250 years.
“Being a wedding dress designer with an appreciation for fashion design and garment fit is extremely important. It is the expertise to understand garments and how they fit the individual. I work with an experienced and talented team, who appreciate and understand our personal approach to each bride.”
